Senior Pet Care

Rustic Line

Their Golden Years

Did you know that dogs and cats are considered “Senior Citizens” between the ages of eight and ten?

Aging in pets is influenced by various factors such as breed size, genetics, diet, and exercise level.

With advancements in veterinary medicine, both pets and their owners have the opportunity to enjoy longer, healthier lives.

The Key to Aging?

Prevention is paramount in senior pet care. Detecting conditions like heart disease early allows for better treatment outcomes before irreversible damage occurs.

Unlike humans who can vocalize their discomfort, pets rely on our observation and diagnostic testing to identify ailments promptly.

Here are some average lifespans for different pet sizes:

  • Small dogs (<20lbs.): 9-13 years
  • Medium dogs (21-50lbs.): 9-11.5 years
  • Large dogs (51-90lbs.): 7.5-10.5 years
  • Giant dogs (>90lbs.): 6-9 years
  • Most cats: 8-10 years
  • Rabbits: 3 years
  • Ferrets: 2 years
